December 6, 2013 - Birch Hills braved the frigid temperatures to try and take revenge on Big River after losing in overtime to them 2 weeks ago. It was looking pretty bleak for the 'Hawks as they found themselves down 3-0 halfway through the first. A few minutes later Birch Hills caught a few lucky bounces and with quick goals from Ryan Shore and Tye Grambo tightened the Braves lead to 3-2. With a little over 5 minutes left in the period Shore scored again to even the score in the first period. It looked as if Birch Hills had gotten their heads in it and a goal from Brett Springinotic put the 'Hawks up 4-3. Big River's goal 2 minutes later evened the score again. Before the midway mark of the third Big River was up 6-4. Cody Folstad's goal at 7:51 of the third brought the score within 1, but a couple quick goals by the Braves finished the 'Hawks as they headed home with an 8-5 loss.

 

November 30, 2013 - The Blackhawks were looking to come back hard after losing in OT to Big River last weekend. Birch Hills played host to Leoville and looked to spoil their visit. It was looking to be a close game with no goals scored for the first 9 minutes of play. Brett Springinotic opened up the scoring and netted 2 in the last half of the first period to take the game into the locker room 2-0. Derek Becker and Tye Grambo scored in the second to make it 4-0 after 40 minutes. Cody Folstad looked to open up the scoring as he scored twice and Springinotic completed the hat trick and the score was now 7-0. With 5:33 left in the game Leoville scored to wreck the shutout. Brad Hunter scored 11 seconds later to round out the scoring. Birch Hills took the win with a score of 8-1.

 

November 23, 2013 - Birch Hills was back at home tonight as they faced off against the Big River Braves. The Blackhawks scored first when Brett Springinotic scored a little after the 15 minute mark of the first. Big River came back strong and before the midway mark of the period were up 2-1. The 'Hawks picked up their socks and got goals from Svend Sorenson and Brett Senger. But late in the period Big River scored and sent the teams into the locker room tied 3-3 after 20 minutes of play. Brock Tilford put the 'Hawks up 4-3 four minutes into the second period. It was a back and forth game from here on out. The Braves evened the score with 5 minutes left in the period. With 2 minutes left in the frame, Brett Springinotic tallied his second of the game and we were going into the third period with the 'Hawks up 5-4. Birch Hills was looking for some insurance in the third and Brett Senger answered the call when he sent the 'Hawks up 6-4 early in the period. Big River wasn't about to quit and came within a goal half way through the third. After a time-out Big River scored on the power play with 1:21 left in the game. The period ended with the teams deadlocked at 6-6. A 5 minute overtime ensued and the play went back and forth down the ice, but Birch Hills just couldn't hold them off and the Braves scored with 2:18 left in overtime to take the 7-6 win.

 

November 16, 2013 - The 'Hawks hit the road and travelled to Flying Dust to take on the Broncos. Tonight the team announced they will have different captains on the road, Brock Tilford will be the Captain on the road, Cody Folstad and Brett Springinotic will wear the "A" on the road.  Birch Hills didn't have much for bus legs tonight as they came out flying. Brett Springinotic tallied first one and a half minutes into the game. The boys went up 2-0 with a wrap-a-round goal from Brett Senger 5 minutes later. It went back and forth for the rest of the period but the Blackhawks finished the period up 2-0. It took almost half of the middle frame but Springinotic scored again to make it 3-0. Three minutes later, Derek Becker made the 'Hawks go up 4-0.  Meadow Lake scored to make it 4-1 with less than one minute left in the second. Birch Hills shut the Broncos down in the third and finished with a 4-1 win.

 

November 9, 2013 - Debden was in town again tonight looking for revenge after last weekends 12-2 thumping from the Blackhawks. They looked to prove themselves as they came out flying and scored less than 2 minutes into the game. Almost 2 minutes later Brett Senger tied up the game. 6 minutes into the game Karsten Markowski made it 2-1. At the 9:13 mark of the first Brock Tilford scored and it was now 3-1. Less than 2 minutes later Debden would score on the power play to bring BH's lead to 3-2. Birch Hills then got goals from Brett Springinotic and Tye Grambo to widen the lead to 5-2. Debden scored again on the power play with 25 seconds left in the period. Birch Hills would go into the first intermission up 5-3. Senger scored his second of the game 19 seconds into the second period. Brad Hunter and Ryan Shore would also get goals in the second to send the 'Hawks into the dressing room after the second up 8-3. Markowski blasted his second of the game 3 minutes into the final frame to go up 9-3. 4:26 into the period Brant Frenette made it 10-3 for the 'Hawks. A few minutes later Folstad would drop the mitts for a short tilt and came out of it with a draw. Birch Hills would cruise to a 10-3 victory.

 

November 2, 2013 - The Blackhawks opened up the 2013/2014 BLHL at home tonight as they hosted the expansion Debden Jets. The 'Hawks came out flying with 3 first period goals. Brett Senger, Brendon Crain, and Tye Grambo scored in the first for Birch Hills. They finished the period up 3-0. The second period was back and forth with no goals scored in the first half of the period. Just over the half way mark of the second, Debden scored to make it 3-1. About a minute and a half later, Senger scored his 2nd of the game to make it 4-1 on a penalty shot. The period would end with the 'Hawks up 4-1. 20 seconds into the third Ryan Shore potted one to make it 5-1. Senger would then complete the hat trick, with Derek Becker scoring a few minutes after. Half way through the final frame Birch Hills was up 7-1. With 9:38 left in the period, Cody Folstad scored his first as a Blackhawk to make it 8-1 on the power play. But shortly after Debden would score to make it 8-2. It didn't take long before Brett Springinotic would burry it to go up 9-2. Derek Becker and Ryan Shore would each score their second of the game and the score was now 11-2. With 6 minutes left in the game, Senger would score his 4th of the game and Birch Hills would win 12-2.

 

November 1, 2013 - Game 2 of the Blackhawks vs Tigers pre-season series was held in Birch Hills. Kinistino went ahead early after they scored 15 seconds into the game. 5 minutes into the game Tye Grambo scored to even the game. A few minutes later Kinistino made it 2-1. The period would end that way. 6 minutes into the second, Kinistino made it 3-1 and that's how the period would end. Halfway through the final frame, Brett Senger made it 3-2. With 5 minutes left in the game Kinistino would take a 4-2 lead. A minute and a half later Zach Becker made it 4-3. It was looking as if the Blackhawks were about to make a comeback, but with 3:27 left in the game Kinistino would score and secure the 5-3 win for the Tigers.

 

October 25, 2013 - Birch Hills traveled to Kinistino tonight for some pre-season action against the Tigers. It's been a long awaited match up between these 2 former PHL rivals. The game started out close but Kinistino scored 2 in the first to end the period 2-0. Kinistino scored 4 more in the second. In the final minute of the frame Brock Tilford scored assisted by Cody Folstad and Ryan Shore. The third period started with the Tigers ahead 6-1. Kinistino would go on to score 3 more in the third to win the game 9-1.
